Spectator Safety

Following tragic accidents our sport is under the safety spotlight like never before, events are being observed and organisers are being judged.

We have had to make decisions based on experience of where we can recommend the safest spectator viewing points. This year we have viewing areas on our event. They are large areas from where you can see the cars. On the west side of the forest there is plenty of free parking with an easy walk to the stage, and as the stages are used several times you will see plenty of the action. Please use these areas, if you choose to ignore this advice it could lead to the stage or indeed the rally being cancelled. You have been warned.

The future of rallying is in your hands

Marshalling for Greystoke

With the increasing emphasis on safety in rallying it is vital that we have sufficient numbers of marshals to help us with the many duties that are essential for the running of the Greystoke Stages. We are thankful that in the past many people have stepped forward to assist.

This year we are appealing for as many marshals as possible to confirm in advance their intention to attend on the 12th July – in addition this will mean that we can send out early event information.

So if you are available and interested in helping us at Greystoke please visit the marshalling section of our web site, after Monday 1 June, send us your details and be included in the marshals’ prize draw.

For anyone who has not already done so you will also find a link to help you become a MSA registered marshal.

Many thanks.

Following on from the successful ‘First on Scene’ training evening in March West Cumbria Motorsport Club and the organising team of the Greystoke Stages Rally have arranged some continuation training for marshals to be run at M Sport, at Dovenby near Cockermouth, on the 2nd June 2015.

The evening, starting at 7.00pm, will concentrate on removing crew members from a rally car and a car will be on hand to make the training as realistic as possible with the evening being led by Stuart Westbrook of EMMU.

Anyone who would like to come along to this session should let Iain Tullie at M Sport know as soon as possible by emailing him on itullie@m-sport.co.uk

Media Passes Information 2015

As is 2014 anyone wanting to have a media pass into the Greystoke forest venue on the day will have to apply in writing to Andy Barnard, the event Press & Publicity Officer, by the 26th June 2015. Requests can be sent to Andy via the rally website email which is info@greystokestages.co.uk or through the messaging system via the Greystoke Stages Rally on Facebook where you can get hold of Andy’s Facebook contact.

Anyone wanting a pass should send their name, address, postcode, mobile phone number, the registration number of the car they will be coming in and the organisation they are representing to Andy and then numbered passes will then be posted out to all during the week commencing 29th June 2015.

On the day of the event passes will have to be shown to the marshal on the gate at the entrance to the forest and the service area to enable access to the rally. The marshal will check off against the list of passes issued and we are sorry but no pass, no entry. The marshal will then issue you with a numbered white media tabard which you are asked to wear at all times during the rally so that you can be easily identified by the marshals. Once cleared through the gate you should then proceed to sign-on at the same point as the marshal’s signing-on beyond the service area.

At the end of the rally you are asked to leave the venue via the same route as you entered and return your tabard to the rally HQ near the service area.

Another addition to this year’s event is that anybody carrying a media pass/ wearing a media tabard who breaches rally safety rules or ignores the instructions of a marshal will not have their media pass issued for the following year.

Following the latest organising team meeting it’s all systems go for Greystoke 2015.

With the great support the rally has received from a number of sponsors the organisers have been able to hold the entry fee at the same level as 2014, £330, for the 38 cracking stage miles and this advanced notice will hopefully enable crews to budget better for the July rally.

In mid/late April the regs will be published on the rally website and at that point entries will open for the 2015 Greystoke Stages Rally sponsored by P & R Benn. Information will also go on the rally Facebook page and the British Rally Forum to give everyone the chance to get their entries in as soon as possible. Remember last year the entry list filled up within a week of entries opening so best not hang about!

Marshals will again be provided with a range of goodies when they arrive to sign-on and we will be having another marshal’s prize draw during the day. Without their tremendous help the event couldn’t run.

More news will be coming out soon so keep a watch on all the places you’ll find Greystoke – the website, Facebook and the British Rally Forum.

2015 Sponsorship News

To ensure that the P&R Benn Greystoke Stages in 2015 continues to offer value for money and as high a standard we are delighted to announce the following sponsors will be backing the rally, some returning for yet another year, some supporting the event for the first time.

Our main event sponsor will continue to be Paul Benn of Cockermouth 4x4 Centre, and we are delighted that he will be carrying on from previous years with his invaluable backing.

Continuing their support for Greystoke are -

Goodfellows Tyres of Cockermouth. Darrie Goodfellows has been a loyal supporter of the rally and is returning in 2015 with continued sponsorship.

Adam Ross the owner of AS Design Cumbria of Cleator Moor has repeated his offer to other sponsors looking to have a banner produced for display in the forest to get in touch with him.

RABrallyesport of Distington will be coming back for their second year of sponsorship with owner Richard Barnard not only happy to supply competitors’ parts, equipment and clothing but threatening one day to enter the rally himself!

The Hundith Hill Hotel near Cockermouth provides the venue for all the organising team meetings throughout the year and their backing in this way is invaluable.

Some very welcome new faces to the rally for 2015 –

Paul Gribben has made a return to rallying after a long layoff and his business, PHG Safety Services Ltd of Annan, will be our first sponsor from across the border.

The Ennerdale Brewery, from Croasdale Farm, Ennerdale, is new to motorsport sponsorship. Sadly we won’t be able to give samples of their products before the start of the rally but would encourage you to try them afterwards.

A fairly new Whitehaven Business, Cumbria Car Parts, is also providing motorsport sponsorship for the first time and Damian Sibson, one of the Directors, is looking forward to bringing his business closer to the motorsport market in the future.

Rallytech.com is a familiar supplier of composites for motorsport. Paula and John Swinscoe, directors at Rallytech, didn’t hesitate when asked if their company would support Greystoke in 2015.

To all of the above we extend out thanks, for their help in containing increasing costs and we would ask anyone connected with the rally to patronise these sponsors whenever they can as another way of us collectively saying thank you.
